Logistics - Fullfilling audit requirements

At Lune, we prioritise transparency in every step of our emissions calculations. That’s why we provide detailed breakdowns for each calculation, from the chosen emission factor to a WTW analysis. Our goal is to give you and your customers full confidence in these calculations. We strive to make it as easy as possible for your customers to fulfill any audit requirements they may have.

API response

Each API response includes key details to help you build trust with your customers. For each leg, you can see:
emission_factor
Details on the emission factor chosen for calculation, including its source, publication year, and any other available data.
wtw_details
A breakdown of emissions, covering well-to-tank and tank-to-wheel emissions.
pollutants
Atmospheric pollutants: CO2 (greenhouse gas), NOx (smog/respiratory issues), SO2 (acid rain), NMHC (ozone formation), PM (respiratory particles).
distance_calculation_method
The algorithm used to calculate the distance between the source and destination.
methodology_details
A detailed explanation of the methodology used to make the calculation.
distance
The calculated distance for the shipment from the source and destination provided.
Using these properties, you can display emission calculation details to customers directly… but we’ve made it even easier. Each response also includes two URLs that display details of the estimate calculation in an easy to understand, user-friendly interface:
  • external_estimate_url: A shareable link for your customers. This URL is generated when the client account has external_pages_visibility set to public, and the shipment has been completed (indicated by setting is_shipment to true).
  • dashboard_url: An internal link to your Lune dashboard, accessible only to you.

Estimate page

This page provides a clear, shareable breakdown of emissions calculations, helping you build trust and demonstrate Lune’s accuracy.See an example page here.At the top of the page, you'll see the total emissions for the shipment, along with the calculation date. You can expand each leg to explore:
  • A step-by-step methodology detailing calculation algorithms and data sources.
  • A WTW breakdown of emissions.
  • The chosen emission factor, including its source and publication year.
  • The input values that contributed to the calculation.
The page concludes with an FAQ to enhance customer understanding and trust, answering key questions like:
  • “How can your company use these insights?”
  • “How are logistics emissions measured?”
  • All the information on the estimate page is also available at the dashboard URL. The dashboard can also show you aggregate emission calculations across several or all of your customers, and additional breakdowns. To see all the capabilities of the Lune dashboard, go to our guide.
